New Records Set in Third Annual Disneyland Half Marathon
Course records were broken in Men's, Women's and Master's divisions in the third annual Disneyland Half Marathon, Sunday at Disneyland Resort. John Lucas, a marketing specialist for a sports apparel company in Eugene, Oregon, crossed the finish line first with a Disneyland Half Marathon record time of 1:08:05 (exactly two minutes faster than the 2007 winning time), leading the field of an estimated 13,500 participants.
Disney Cruise Line Looking at Possible Itinerary Changes Due to High Fuel Costs
No part of Walt Disney Co.'s vast corporate empire has been buffeted more by record oil prices than the 10-year-old Disney Cruise Line. Disney executives are studying their existing schedules in hopes of finding more efficient sailing routes between ports that stretch from St. Maarten in the eastern Caribbean to Cozumel just off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.
Hong Kong Disneyland is expected to record attendance of 5.6 million people in its third year of operation -- its best-ever result, a Hong Kong newspaper reported Thursday. The Walt Disney World resort has internally announced that it will be discontinuing its wristband policy for Evening Extra Magic Hours effective September 7, 2008. In lieu of showing wristbands at each operating attraction, eligible resort Guests will now be required to show their Key to the World Card or eligible Resort ID/Key. This procedure was previously tested for several days in February 2008 at the Magic Kingdom park.
Disney Sells Land at Disney World to Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts
The Walt Disney Co. said on Monday it has sold 298 acres of land to Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for a hotel and golf course to anchor a previously announced luxury development in Florida. Disney did not disclose the terms of the deal but said the facility would enable the company to tap into the luxury travel market. The deal was the first for the two companies.
Walt Disney World says it's starting a large-scale renovation of its Fort Wilderness Campground in Florida, improving its Internet and cable television access. The campground upgrade will also feature new "extra-extra-large" recreational vehicle pads, Segway scooter tours, a mini-water park, a dog park and an improved electric-cart rental operation.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort said Monday it will randomly pick a guest for a gas rebate of $1 for every mile driven roundtrip. The offer will stand for each week through Labor Day and is only available to Florida residents. A guest driving to the resort from South Florida could potentially pocket up to $800, according to the company.
Walt Disney World officials are monitoring the approach of Tropical Storm Fay. At this time all parks and attractions are expected to be open, at least during the morning hours. As a convenience to guests all four parks will open at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19.
Walt Disney World is revising its employee gun ban policy. With the change, some Disney employees will be allowed to keep a gun locked in a car as long as the employee has a concealed-weapons permit, the gun isn't visible, and the weapon isn't taken out of the car.
More than 30 picketers have been arrested outside Disneyland as they protested in a labor dispute between Disney and its hotel workers.The protesters were taken away in handcuffs Thursday after sitting in a busy intersection outside the park, many of them dressed as Disney characters such as Cinderella and Peter Pan.The arrests followed a march by hundreds of maids, cooks and dishwashers from three Disney hotels who are complaining about a contract dispute.

The Walt Disney Co. said Thursday a former Coca-Cola executive with 20 years of experience in China has been appointed head of Hong Kong Disneyland.Andrew Kam has been named managing director of the Hong Kong park, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts said in a statement.
A two-story tall dinosaur arrived on a flatbed truck at Walt Disney World's Downtown Disney district this week. The dinosaur will be featured inside a new restaurant, currently under construction, called "T-Rex: a Prehistoric Family Adventure." Developed by Schussler Creative, Inc. and operated by Landry's Restaurants, the 600-seat restaurant will feature dinosaurs, waterfalls, bubbling geysers and a fossil dig site. "T-Rex" will open mid October 2008.

Adventures by Disney announced it will be adding eight new destinations to their list of trips, giving their guests a total of 23 destinations to choose from in 2009. Walt Disney Co. announced today that it will not renew its lease for its World of Disney store at 711 Fifth Ave. when it expires in 2010 because of hefty rent increases.The entertainment conglomerate notified its 220 store employees, called 'cast members', Thursday and Friday that it will be leaving its current 36,000-square-foot space, Disney's only Manhattan location.
Disney to remove McDonald's spots from California theme park
Walt Disney Co. is eliminating McDonald's Corp. fast-food restaurants at its Disneyland Resort. Three McDonald's locations at the Anaheim park will close Sept. 2 as part of planned refurbishments, Disneyland spokeswoman Lisa Haines said today.
