Hanesbrands Inc. Signs Deal with Disney
Looking to keep growing its Hanes and Champion brands, Hanesbrands Inc. said Tuesday it has signed a wide-ranging marketing deal with The Walt Disney Co. that includes product co-branding, attraction sponsorships and signage at Disney parks and resorts. The 10-year deal is estimated to be worth "tens of millions of dollars," and is the largest marketing alliance for the T-shirt, bra and underwear maker, Hanesbrands officials said.
Disneyland will pay tribute to the 70th Anniversary of Walt Disney's first full-length animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on November 16, 2007. In addition to special packaged events, the resort will open a special exhibit. "The Fairest One of All," exhibit will be a never-before-seen collection of more than 100 pieces of priceless animation treasures used in the creation of the film. For a limited time, this first-of-its-kind exhibit will be seen exclusively at the Disneyland Resort starting November 16th.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in partnership with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State, recently premiered “Welcome: Portraits of America,” a multi-media initiative to welcome international visitors to the United States. The donation from Disney included a seven-minute film and hundreds of still images, featuring American people from all regions and walks of life. Disney was commissioned to the project as part of the Rice-Chertoff Initiative that seeks to secure America’s borders while welcoming legitimate visitors to the United States.
Disney announced that it will donate $2 million to the wildfire relief effort, with $200,000 of that going to the Red Cross for immediate needs and the rest earmarked for volunteer centers, rebuilding and restoring the environment. While other Studios are donating money as well, Disney is also uniquely offering a bit of less tangible relief. Mickey Mouse and Friends will be visiting Qualcomm Stadium, where thousands of San Diego evacuees are staying, as well other shelters in the next week.
Goofy catches a topiary wave while Mickey Mouse and gal pal Minnie chill at the "beach" for the 15th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival March 19-June 1 at Walt Disney World Resort. Last year's popular 60-day event has sprouted runners and expands to a full 75 days with its first-ever March launch, offering oceans of floral fantasy and gardening fun. In all, there will be up to 70 topiaries -- plus 30 million blooms, artfully designed floral beds, expertly crafted bonsai trees and lush rose gardens -- gracing the 300 acres of Future World and World Showcase.
The Walt Disney Company today unveiled a significant multi-year expansion plan for the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim that continues its growth as a multi-day, world-class tourist destination. Announced by Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger and Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo at a press conference at Walt Disney Imagineering’s Glendale headquarters, the expansion will bring new entertainment and major family-oriented attractions to Disney’s California Adventure, including a new park icon, new park entrance area and an entirely new Cars Land inspired by the hit Disney•Pixar animated film Cars.
Disney Garden's new food products were unveiled for the first time this week at the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Fresh Summit in Houston, TX (October 12th - 15th) – an international trade show attended by the produce and floral industry. Presented by Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy, and with names like Totally Teriyaki Sugar Snap Peas, Sunny Honey Orange Carrot Coins, Threezy Cheezy Broccoli Bites, My Size Minis and Foodles, the new line of Disney Garden selections offers options that are nutritious and fun – at school, home or on the go. All of the products meet Disney's food guidelines which place limits on calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar and sodium.
The Lion King, the blockbusting Disney stage musical, opened at the Mogador theatre in Paris this week as Le Roi Lion. Le Roi Lion has been greeted by standing ovations on each of its six preview nights, and Stephane Laporte, who adapted the stage show and translated the lyrics into French, was confident before the curtain went up in Paris on Thursday that this American coming of age musical would have its French audiences hooked.
The Walt Disney Co. announced this afternoon that it will build a more than 800-room hotel and time share on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The announcement comes eight months after Rasulo told investors that Disney was considering building standalone hotels, independent entertainment districts or even niche theme parks in locations far beyond its mega-resorts in Orlando and four other cities around the world. Disney said it has purchased 21 acres of oceanfront land for the project on the southwestern corner of Oahu, Hawaii's most populous island.
