Disney's Private Island for the Day Sweepstakes

On October 1st, Good Morning America will be commemorating the extension of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration with a two-week giveaway promotion. From October 1 - October 12, in guests can enter the sweepstakes to win the Disney's Private Island for the Day prize. The show will be broadcasted live in the middle of Times Square on an 'island'.

Disney Mobile to Cease Operations

Disney Mobile announced today that it will be discontinuing wireless service for its customers on December 31st, 2007. Content and application downloads will be the first features to go dark for the wireless provider, effective immediately. However, the closure doesn't mark the end of Disney's mobile aspirations, as company executives have announced that the move will ultimately facilitate a more profitable transition to its Family Center suite via another major wireless provider.

Disney Wins Ruling in Pooh Case

The Walt Disney Co. won an appeals-court ruling in its 16-year battle over Winnie the Pooh royalties. A California appeals court in Los Angeles, in a notice filed Tuesday, affirmed a 2004 trial judge's decision to throw out a lawsuit by Stephen Slesinger Inc.

KB Home to Market Disney Furnishings

Walt Disney Co. and KB Home have signed an exclusive marketing agreement to feature Disney-branded home furnishing products in developments throughout the nation, including Orlando. Disney is best known for its toys and movies, but it also has a line of flooring, window coverings, lighting and more.

Luxury Hotel Scheduled to Open in Celebration

Developers of the new 240-room Mona Lisa Suite Hotel in Celebration, Fla., have announced that a significant construction milestone for the luxury all-suite hotel. The hotel will feature 93 one- and 147 two-bedroom suites ranging in size from 704 to 1,267 square feet. Celebration, Florida is an unincorporated master-planned community in Osceola County that was developed by The Walt Disney Company. Although The Walt Disney Comany has divested most of its control, it still owns some commercial parcels near I-4 on Celebration Blvd.

Disney-ABC Television Group & AOL Sign Deal

The Disney-ABC Television Group and AOL have announced the availability of full-length episodes of popular primetime shows on AOL Video. The agreement marks the first time ABC's primetime programming has been made available on a major portal and is also the first time a major portal has offered a full feature version of a broadcast network's online video player. Additionally, the two companies will team to offer select short form programming from ABC via an embedded short-form player, which will debut on AOL later this year.

$10 Million to Florida Children's Hospital

The Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Worldwide Outreach announced they are donating $10 million to Florida Children's Hospital, part of Florida Hospital's downtown Orlando campus. The hospital will be named for Disney, though the exact name has not been revealed yet. It is the first time a hospital has been named for the Disney company.

Grand Californian: 200 Rooms & 50 DVC Units

Responding to a growing demand for guest accommodations in Anaheim, the Disneyland Resort today celebrated an expansion of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa that will increase accommodations by more than 30 percent and will include the first Disney Vacation Club villas in Anaheim. The 2.5-acre expansion on the hotel's south side will add more than 200 new hotel rooms and 50 two-bedroom equivalent vacation villas and is expected for completion in 2009.

Epcot's 25th Anniversary: October 1, 2007

While the Year of a Million Dreams celebration continues across all of Walt Disney World, Guests who are visiting Epcot on October 1, 2007 will know they are a part of a special day as the park commemorates its anniversary in a number of ways. Events include a rededication ceremony, an Epcot historical exhibit opening in Innoventions, and an exclusive Illuminations finale. While many of the events will only be one day, the historical exhibit and celebration merchandise are expected to continue beyond the anniversary day.

King Parrot Smoothies Teams Up with Disney

King Parrot Smoothies will feature four characters from the company's classic animated movie the Jungle Book, which will be available on DVD for the first time in November. The move is yet more evidence of a significant change in approach for Disney as it responds to consumer demands for healthier food options. King Parrot is the first ultra-healthy brand to link with Disney in the UK since the corporation's announcement in October of last year to start phasing out licensing agreements with food and drinks that fail to meet new nutrition criteria.

Rawlings Opens Sub-Store in Downtown Disney

A new merchandise location, operated by Rawlings, opened September 10, 2007 at the Walt Disney World resort's Downtown Disney Complex. Located inside the Team Mickey Athletic Club, the sub-store offers guests personalized bats and gloves, balls and helmets. The area also has special viewing areas where guests can see their names, signatures and even their amateur team’s logos laser-engraved or embroidered on the item of their choice.

New Shuttle to Connect Train with Disneyland

Getting to Disneyland on Southern California's expanding rail network will get much easier October 1, 2007 with the start of regular shuttle service between the Anaheim train station, the Disneyland Resort and Anaheim Resort hotels. The shuttles will meet all northbound and southbound Pacific Surfliner trains.

Sad 2nd Birthday for Hong Kong Disneyland

As second birthday parties go, it was a rather sombre affair. Faced with disappointing attendance figures and strained labour relations, executives at Hong Kong Disneyland were probably not in the mood to celebrate the park's anniversary Wednesday. Modest commemorative gifts were handed out to guests and some special treats laid on for staff but there was none of the pizzazz and ferocious optimism that marked the spectacular opening of the 3.5 billion US dollar park on September 12, 2005.

Executive VP of Global Marketing To Leave

Michael Mendenhall, a long-time Walt Disney Company executive, has been appointed as senior vice president and chief marketing officer at HP, effective Oct. 1, 2007. Mendenhall has spent the past 17 years at the Walt Disney Company. As Executive VP of Global Marketing, he directed all marketing and publicity activity for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, a $10 billion business and is credited as the brain father of most recent promotional campaigns including the current Year of a Million Dreams campaign.

ABC1 to Be Removed from Disney's UK Line-Up

ABC1, the general US entertainment channel from Disney, is to close down next month. ABC1 broadcasts from 6am to 6pm on digital terrestrial TV but 24 hours a day on other platforms. John Hardie, Walt Disney TV's executive VP and managing director in Europe, the Middle East and Africa told Broadcast that ABC1's "inability to get access to a Freeview primetime spectrum" and a corporate decision to "focus on the Disney brand" resulted in a decision "that it was best to move on."

Disney Co. to Test Its Licensed Toys

The Walt Disney Co. will begin testing toys featuring its characters in an effort to ensure product safety ahead of the busy holiday shopping season, according to a pair of reports published Monday.
Disney, which typically licenses the use of its characters to toymakers, said it will test more than 65,000 children's products, including items that are already on store shelves.

Disney Gold Records Collection Launched

Photo File, Inc., the leader in licensed sports photography, debuted limited edition framed, 24KT gold-plated records commemorating classic Disney soundtracks at Decor Expo, the world's largest decorative art and framing tradeshow, in Atlanta on September 7. The line will rollout at retailers nationwide with a suggested retail price of $249 each.

3 More Disney World Hotels Go "Green"

Walt Disney World's Contemporary, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs Resorts were designated September 4th by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as the 34th, 35th and 36th Florida hotels in its Florida Green Lodging Program. The program is a voluntary state initiative that provides the hotel industry with technical assistance and encourages it to adopt cost-saving "green" practices that reduce waste and conserve natural resources.

Adventures By Disney Adds 8 Locations for 2008

Walt Disney Co. widening its strategy to compete with vacations at other locations worldwide -- by offering more vacations itself to other locations worldwide. Adventures By Disney, the company's two-year-old and rapidly-expanding package-vacation program, has added eight more locations for 2008, including trips to China, Australia and Disneyland, the company announced earlier this month.

Magical Express Service to Ramp-Up

A little more than two years after its launch, Walt Disney World's first-of-its-kind, free airport shuttle has proved wildly popular with customers. Representatives for Disney and the company it contracts with to run its check-in service, Orlando-based Bags Inc., say they are still working on an agreement with Texas-based Southwest. An airline spokeswoman said it hopes to join by early 2008. Another goal is to begin offering the service to at least some international travelers before the end of the year.

Napa Rose Wins 2007 DiRoNA Award

The Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA) has chosen Napa Rose, the nationally-recognized gourmet restaurant in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa at Disneyland Resort, to receive a 2007 DiRoNA Award of Excellence, one of the most sought-after accolades in the restaurant industry. This is the second time that Napa Rose has received the DiRoNA Award.
