High School Musical 2 @ the Disneyland Resort
The biggest splash of the summer, the world premiere of Disney Channel's highly-anticipated High School Musical 2, will be hosted in Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort. Additionally, a brand new "Pep Rally" show inspired by the sequal will open at Disney's California Adventure.
On Tuesday, August 14 stars of the movie and other celebrity guests will walk the carpet in Downtown Disney prior to the 6:00pm screening. Following the Downtown Disney festivities, they will attend an invitation only poolside party at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. The movie will be premired at the AMC theater in the Downtown Disney section of the resort.
During live daily performances of the High School Musical Pep Rally, an interactive sing-along street show, guests have been catching Wildcat fever as they learn lively cheers and cool dance moves from the hit movie's popular songs. And inspired by the sequel, a brand new High School Musical 2: School’s Out! show will spring to life at Disney's California Adventure beginning Saturday, August 18.

Theme park operator Euro Disney SCA said on Thursday its third-quarter revenues rose 12 percent to 322 million euros ($444.7 million), citing stronger hotel revenues as well as a rise in the number of visitors. Theme park revenues gained 8 percent to 173.7 million euros, boosted by a 9 percent rise in attendance to Disneyland Paris. Hotels and Disney Village revenues rose 21 percent to 132.7 million euros, lifted by a 17 percent increase in average spending per room as well as a 4.7 percentage point increase in hotel occupancy.
Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Bill Ernest says that based on the satisfactory room occupancy of its existing two hotels, Hong Kong Disneyland plans to build a third hotel to meet growing demand. Walt Disney Co. on Wednesday became the first major Hollywood studio to ban depictions of smoking, saying tobacco use would be off-limits in its family-oriented, Disney-branded films and "discouraged" in films distributed by its Touchstone and Miramax labels.

One of the most popular features of Disney-MGM Studios' Star Wars Weekends will become a permanent show this fall when Walt Disney World completes construction of a new stage for the Star Wars Jedi Training Academy. Disney spokewsoman Zoraya Suarez said the academy should have as many as eight shows a day, each with a dozen or more children, starting this fall.

Disney Interactive Studioshas announced that it has acquired Austin, Texas-based Junction Point Studios, a video game development studio led by industry luminary Warren Spector. Junction Point Studios will create new video game franchises and will also bring some of Disney’s most beloved franchises to next generation gaming platforms. A lifelong Disney fan, Spector recognizes the opportunity to overlay Disney content and resources on top of exceptional game design to create unique experiences for players.
In Florida, The Walt Disney Co. has taken the lead in greening its hotels. Florida certified Green Hotels typically have low-flow fixtures, energy-efficient appliances, provide guests with recycling containers in each room and automatically shuts off air conditioning units with sensors that detect when the room is unoccupied. Disney expects to certify all 18 of its Florida hotels by Earth Day 2008.
Beginning July 10 2007, consumers of all ages have access to a growing catalog of new and classic movies from The Walt Disney Studios including titles from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures and Miramax Films, on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the leading high-definition-video download service. "We're always looking for more ways to let people experience our films," said Dan Cohen, executive vice president of pay television and interactive media for Disney-ABC Domestic Television.
Toontown, a "massively multiplayer online game" which the company launched back in 2003, has traditionally required users to pay a subscription fee of $9.95 a month following a free trial period. But as of late May, a new beta version of the site was made available online that allows users to play the game for free for as long as they'd like. According to Disney officials, the company is now in the process of talking to advertisers, and by this fall a new, entirely ad-supported version of the site will be launched.
Disney Interactive Studios has finally relaunched Climax, the UK-based racing studio it acquired last year, as Black Rock Studio. The relaunch for the studio is another step in severing the ties from its former owner – one of its teams recently finished work on MotoGP 07, fulfilling Climax's prior contract for THQ – and helps the outfit stand and be counted as part of the Disney empire. Black Rock is Disney's only European studio so far, taking its place alongside Vancouver-based Propaganda Games and Avalanche Software and Fall Line Studios, both based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Disney is taking the stage version of its hit TV movie "High School Musical" to the U.K. for a national tour beginning Jan. 23, 2008. The Disney Theatrical Productions stage version features a book by David Simpatico adapted from Peter Barsocchini's original screenplay. Jeff Calhoun (Grease and Big River, both on Broadway) will direct the show, which features a live orchestra and 34 performers.
Epcot Vice President Jim MacPhee announced that the time has come to remove the Mickey Mouse Hand and Wand structure, which has served both as a colorful, lighted Epcot sign since 2000, and as a lightning rod for criticism from Epcot purists who contended the image was out of character for Epcot's architecture. The removal is scheduled to start July 9, 2007. The arm and wand went up for Walt Disney World's 2000 millennium celebration.
In an effort to accelerate the construction timeline of the Animal Kingdom Villas, portions of the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort will be temporarily closing. Construction is occurring at the resort to complete the conversion of the fifth and sixth floors to Vacation Homes. As a result of the accelerated timeline, Disney is working with Guests who have existing Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge reservations to assist them in selecting alternate accommodations for their upcoming visit. This does not affect all Guests staying at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Epcot's American Adventure has entered the 21st century, adding Michelle Kwan, Tiger Woods and the firefighters who raised the flag at the World Trade Center's ground zero to Walt Disney World's show of American history and inspiration. The update, which adds images from America's most recent 14 years of history, was completed and debuted a couple of weeks ago. This is the second time that American Adventure has been updated since the show, in the World Showcase American Adventure Pavilion, premiered when Epcot opened in 1982.
Longtime Disney animator Art Stevens, who began his studio career working on "Fantasia" and went on to co-direct "The Fox and the Hound" and "The Rescuers," has died. He was 92. Stevens died at his home in Studio City after a heart attack, Disney spokesman Howard Green said. Among Stevens credits as an animator were "101 Dalmatians," "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day," "Robin Hood," "Mary Poppins" and "Bedknobs and Broomsticks."
