Disneyland Resort May Consider 3rd Gate

Ed Grier has seen the world with Walt Disney Co., leaving his mark on parks from Florida to Paris to Tokyo. Now he has a chance to do the same as president of the Disneyland Resort, which includes the company's two Anaheim theme parks, three hotels and Downtown Disney shopping center. Grier also is involved in planning for a possible third Anaheim park. First talked about in 2000, Disney wants a "third gate" on a 75-acre parcel near Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue.

'Playhouse Disney' To Get New Look & Hosts

Disney Channel has announced plans to revamp its 'Playhouse Disney' programming block with new hosts and new graphics starting Friday, March 31st. (6:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET/PT). Ooh and Aah, a pair of fun-loving monkey brothers, will host the programming block every day from their tree house in the jungle. Viewers first met Ooh and Aah in the popular "Ooh, Aah & You" short-form series which premiered in July 2005 and continues to air daily during Playhouse Disney.

Technology Is Disney's Future

Walt Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger dazzled attendees at his International CES keynote speech with sneak previews of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," the third installment in the hugely successful series, and "Ratatouille," the upcoming 3D animation adventure from Pixar. But there was a serious message beneath the sizzle: Disney is intent on moving beyond traditional movies and TV programming to become a multimedia,multiplatform digital entertainment company.

Il Mulino New York to Open At the Swan Resort

Il Mulino New York is pleased to announce its newest restaurant at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort, set to open early 2007. The acclaimed Il Mulino New York will offer its signature, superior dining experience in a more relaxed and vibrant setting at the Walt Disney World Resort. Features such as Piatti per il Tavolo (family-style dining) and wood-fired pizzas complement Il Mulino New York's family-friendly Orlando locale in a setting reminiscent of old-world bistro charm.

Disney Related TV ~ 5th Week of 2007

A wave of Disney Movies floods the air waves this week. The Disney Channel presents Return to Neverland, The Emperors New Grove and Snow Dogs to name a few. Toon Disney gets in on the action showcasing sequels like Pocahontas II, Kronk's New Groove and Stitch: The Movie. The Hallmark Channel airs the timeless classic The Parent Trap.

After two days of exciting world premiers, official dedications and sneak peaks; Disney tops off their 3 day event with a "What's New, What's Next" Announcement. Through the announcement Disney has revealed plans for a new interactive attraction coming to both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts as-well-as a new high-tech concierge service. JohnY covers this exciting news in his continuing blog.

Toy Story Mania, an interactive new ride, is coming to Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World and Disney's California Adventure at Disneyland. Guests will immerse themselves in the world of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 when they don 3D Glasses and are shrunk to the size of a toy and sent thru a midway themed route.

Disney's Online Concierge, an interactive computer service, could be launched in the near future. These new technology was demoed at the press event and is currently being tests at Walt Disney World's Contemporary Resort.

In addition to the announcement at Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Resort made a "What's Next" style press release of their own. The release gave further detail to their version of Toy Story Mania and also announced "Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island". The new addition to Tom Sawyer Island in Disneyland's Frontierland will debut May 2007. The new area will build upon the hands-on play and exploration that have made the island a popular experience for children and adults for the past 50 years.

The Press Events have moved to the Magic Kingdom park and JohnY is there to cover it all. Now focusing on the "Year of A Million Dreams" promotion the events unveil the Disney Wish Lounge, give a sneak peek at Monsters, Inc. The Laugh Floor Comedy Club, offer a special presentation of "Dream Along With Mickey" and give a full tour of the Cinderella Castle Suite. JohnY will be keeping us up-to-date live as he travels from event to event.

Disney has released new information on "The Year of A Million Dreams". Disney has now released a concise outline of the promotion officially detailing its conclusion December 31, 2007. They have released an update on the status of the Disney Dreams Giveaway and a list of some of the winners. So far more than 303,400 (and counting) Dreams have been granted. Disney has also released a detailed agenda for those lucky Guests staying in the Cinderella Castle suite, along with a detailed overview of all the Suite's rooms.

The Disneyland Resort isn't being left out of the fun during the Year of a Million Dreams. The Park that Walt Built has debuted 3 new immersive entertainment offerings that absorb Guests into the world of Pirate, Princesses and the Jedi. Across the way at Disney's California Adventure, Guests are transported to the musical world of Disney Channel's High School Musical. In addition to this great new entertainment, both parks are debuting 3 new attractions between them during the promotion. From January 3-April 26, 2007, two of the Disneyland's resorts most popular rides take on a Rock'n transformation--Space Mountain & California Scream'N. In the Summer of 2007 Guests will once again dive under the sea in Disneyland's Tomorrowland on the all new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

Today's events kicks-off with the Finding Nemo "The Musical" World Premier from 5-7 pm. After the show premiere, we head to Epcot for the Big Blue World Party where the Extreme Makover - Pavilion Edition takes place at the Seas Pavilion. The party is to officially re-dedicate The Seas pavilion as The Seas with Nemo and Friends pavilion and includes special entertainment and a fireworks finale. JohnY covers these exciting happenings and gives us his opinions on these new Nemo attractions.

WebDisney's LIVE Press Event Coverage

WebDisney's very own Webmaster, JohnY, has been invited to attend a series of Press Events being held at Walt Disney World January 24-26, 2007 as part of the Year of a Million Dreams promotion. Although his itinerary is jammed packed each day, John will be using the INTERCOT News forum to blog live the interesting things Disney shares with him throughout the event. WebDisney will mirror his updates with postings through-out the event. On the schedule are visits to all the new attractions and shows, a sneak peek at Monsters, Inc. The Chinese New Year at Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland will come alive with traditional Chinese New Year celebrations from February 2 to March 4, 2007 as families from around the city and throughout Asia join Mickey Mouse and the gang to welcome the Year of the Pig in Disney style. To ensure guests truly enjoy their Disney's Chinese New Year experience, Hong Kong Disneyland has designated February 17 to 24, 2007 as Special Days, meaning that guests who have date-specific tickets will have reserved admission to the park.

Disney Cruise Line Returns to the West Coast

Disney Cruise Line announced today that the Disney Magic cruise ship will return to the West Coast for the summer of 2008 to once again offer its highly popular seven-night Mexican Riviera sailings. Disney Cruise Line developed this special itinerary in response to overwhelmingly positive feedback about its original 2005 West Coast sailings and requests from guests who want to see the ship once again departing from the Port of Los Angeles.

Little Mermaid Pushes Beast off Broadway

Disney Theatrical Productions has announced that after thirteen years on Broadway, Beauty and the Beast, will play its final performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on July 29, 2007. Its closure will make way for another Disney musical to move in - The Little Mermaid. The new musical will begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne on November 3rd and officially open on December 6th. The musical will have a pre-Broadway tryout at the Denver Center Attractions at Ellie Caulkins Opera House beginning July 26th.

Travel Weekly Ranks WDW as Best Theme Park

Walt Disney World apparently has the "best theme park" distinction wrapped up among travel agents. For the fourth consecutive year, travel agents who subscribe to Travel Weekly magazine (which calls itself "The National Newspaper of the travel industry") have voted Walt Disney World as the world's best theme park.

Shows Set Records for Disney Channel

Disney Channel viewers leapt on "Jump In," turning the original movie's Friday night premiere into the cabler's most-watched telecast ever. The same night, the kid-centric cabler also posted its best-ever series premiere, as new live-action skein "Cory in the House" crushed all comers. It was basic cable's No. 1 program of the day; it was also the No. 7 program in all of TV, ranking only behind shows on CBS and NBC.

ABC dominates TV at Golden Globes

On a chilly winter evening, the television portion of the Golden Globes turned "Ugly" and "Grey." The Hollywood Foreign Press celebrated "Ugly Betty" in the best comedy series category, and "Grey's Anatomy" won best dramatic series. It was a double-victory for ABC and Touchstone, the studio that produces both shows. America Ferrera also took the top honor as the best comedic television actress, for her portrayal of the lowly assistant in New York City's cruel fashion magazine world in "Ugly Betty."

Disney's High School Musical 2 to Air in August

According to Multichannel News, the previously announced sequel to Disney's smash hit "High School Musical" will debut in August on the Disney Channel. Once again starring Zac Efron as Troy, Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella, Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay, Lucas Grabeel as Ryan, Corbin Bleu as Chad and Monique Coleman as Taylor, "High School Musical 2" will be written by Peter Barsocchini with Kenny Ortega returning to direct and choreograph. Set during the high schoolers' summer vacation, "High School Musical 2" will involve a concert at a country club.

Lost Plots Endgame

Producers of ABC's hugely successful sci-fi thriller serial announced Sunday that they had begun talks with the network on how much longer to keep the Oceanic Flight 815 castaways stuck on Mystery Island. As for the fourth season, the plan is to run all 22 episodes consecutively, in the style of Fox's 24. Lindelof said they want their fans back but fretted, "If we write towards getting them back, we may alienate the audience we already have."

Walt Disney Co. Hits New 52-Week High

Media conglomerate Walt Disney Co., which operates television networks, theme parks, and a film studio, hit a new 52-week high on Friday. Shares added 7 cents to $35.06 in afternoon trading after earlier in the day hitting a new 52-week high of $35.16 on the New York Stock Exchange. Previously, the stock traded in a 52-week range between $24.90 to $35.03, and is up 36 percent in the same period.

4 New Maquettes for Star Wars Weekends 2007

Fans looking forward to 2007's Star Wars Weekends at Disney-MGM Studios now have four more reasons to make the trip to Florida this summer -- Disney has devised four new limited edition maquettes which stunningly portray Disney's iconic characters in classic Star Wars garb. Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy have been transformed into X-Wing Fighter Pilot Mickey, Princess Minnie, Stormtrooper Donald, and Darth Goofy.

Disney Doubles Iger's Payout to $25 Million

Walt Disney Co. more than doubled its annual payout to Robert Iger in 2006 after his role was expanded from president to chief executive. The Disney board's compensation committee said it ordered the big bump after weighing "broad-based operational improvements made during the year," including the acquisition of Pixar Animation Studios and moves by the company to "leverage technology in the creation and distribution of its products."

'Tomb Warriors' Surface at Epcot

The China Gallery at Epcot has debuted Tomb Warriors: Guardian Spirits of Ancient China, a new exhibit showcasing 2,000 years of Chinese funerary art. The new exhibit combines Mingqi artifacts that were placed inside tombs to protect, guide and provide for a spirit in the afterlife; pint-sized replicas of the life-sized tomb warriors found in the 22-square-mile tomb of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang; and cases displaying archaeological tools and photos.

Award Honors Disney's Newest Mountain

The Themed Entertainment Association (THEA) has honored the Expedition Everest—Legend of the Forbidden Mountai attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park with the prestigious 2006 THEA Award for "Outstanding Attraction." Walt Disney Imagineers will accept the award during a gala event on March 3. The new thrill attraction debuted last year, sending guests on a high-speed train adventure into the Himalayas for a face-to-face encounter with the legendary Yeti.

Disney Pulls Brochures From Off-Site Locations

Walt Disney World has pulled its colorful brochures from thousands of hotels, motels, restaurants and businesses throughout the state, maintaining they do little to attract visitors staying at other Florida tourist destinations. Disney officials call it a business decision, but the move has angered some hoteliers and tourism executives. Brochures remain in the Orlando and Kissimmee areas and at a few tourist information centers throughout the state.

Meet the Robinsons in Disney Digital 3-D

Lewis is an orphan who dreams of finding a family. His journey takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson whisks him away to a world where anything is possible…THE FUTURE. Moviegoers to the El Capitan Theatre will be able to experience Disney's "Meet the Robinsons" in special Disney Digital 3-D presentations. A Pirates Life for the People

Echoing the enthusiasm that made Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest the highest-grossing movie of 2006, fans named the swashbuckling sequel both their Favorite Movie Drama and overall Favorite Movie at the 33rd Annual People's Choice Awards Tuesday night. The critically panned yet mega-blockbuster action flick also helped score Johnny Depp his second Favorite Male Movie Star win in a row, an honor he wasn't on hand to receive but which he accepted via satellite from London.

Animal Kingdom's First Baby of the Year

The Walt Disney World animal care team welcomed a healthy baby White Rhinoceros to Disney's Animal Kingdom family last week. Kendi, an eight year old White Rhino gave birth to her second baby – a male named Tom, early the morning of January 4th. Tom is the sixth White Rhino born at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and his mother, Kendi, was the first. Tom, the Rhino, was named in honor of Dr. Tom Foose, President of the International Rhino Foundation.

Walt Disney World Marathon 2007 Kicks-Off

Runners from all over the world are at Walt Disney World for the resort's marathon weekend. A record-breaking 32,000 participants are expected at the biggest on-property event of the year. This year's event kicked-off with a Pirate and Princess 5K through the Disney MGM-studios. This year's event runs January 5-7, 2007.

A Helping Hand for a Healthy New Year

This time of year, many of us resolve that it's time to take a hard look at what we're eating, and make some changes for the better. One small piece of the healthy-eating puzzle has gotten a little easier, as The Walt Disney Company rolls out new guidelines for food products that carry the Disney name and characters. Licensed products from Disney Consumer Products that meet the new guidelines are already on store shelves today -- including breakfast items such as instant oatmeal featuring characters like "The Incredibles" and "Kim Possible," and Disney Garden fresh produce such as kid-sized apples and bananas. Lunch and dinner foods such as Mickey-shaped organic ravioli and other pastas are also now available.

El Capitan Starts 2007 on a 'Cher-ee' Note

Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre will sing in the New Year with a special return engagement of the Sing-A-Long version of Walt Disney's classic "Mary Poppins," from January 11th through the 31st. The film will be projected digitally using fully restored film elements and a re-mastered soundtrack featuring state-of-the-art audio technology. Audiences are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters from the film, and to lend their voices to the classic soundtrack (as the words to the songs are projected up on the screen). Each performance will include a live appearance by Mary Poppins herself.

Adventures by Disney : 12 Itineraries for 2007

Disney is expanding its selection of guided tours for families with 12 itineraries for 2007. Among the Adventures by Disney tours are trips to Wyoming, including whitewater rafting on the Snake River; the American Southwest; the mid-Atlantic, including a tour of Colonial Williamsburg; Costa Rica, including a zip-line tour of a rainforest; England and France; Ireland; Austria and the Czech Republic; and various destinations in Spain and Italy.

Disney to Soon Unveil "New" Disney.com Site

When the Walt Disney Company's chief executive, Robert A. Iger, takes the stage at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Jan. 8, he is expected to introduce the new Disney.com Web site that has taken more than a year to redesign. For years Disney's Web sites, which include the popular ESPN.com, ABC.com and Disney.com, have been among the Internet's most visited. In November, the company overall ranked No. 9 among sites visited at home and work, according to Nielsen Netratings, which tracks online traffic.
