2012 Conde Nast Survey Puts DCL Top of Large Ship Category

The 2012 Conde Nast survey of readers has placed all three Disney Cruise Line ships at the top of the list in the Large Ship category. The Disney Magic was in first place, with the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder in a tie for second with Celebrity Eclipse. Each ship was rated on seven criteria: Activities/Facilities, Cabins, Crew/Service, Design/Layout, Food/Dining, Itineraries/Schedule, Shore Excursions.

2013 DCL- Bookings Open for Dream & Fantasy

The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy sail dates for 2013 opened for booking today. The Dream will be sailing 3 and 4 night Bahama Itineraries, while the Fantasy will be sailing 7 night Eastern and Western. Home Port for both ships will be Port Canaveral.There are no 5 night double dip sailing scheduled for 2013.

Re-Imagined Test Track Coming To Epcot

Re-Imagined Test Track Coming to Epcot this FallThis new version of the attraction will transform the current testing workshop into the sleek “Chevrolet Design Center at Epcot,” where guests will become automotive designers and create their own custom vehicles. Next, they’ll buckle into a six-person SimCar ride vehicle and test out their design on the challenging track of the Test Track course. This new experience is the result of a renewed, multi-year business relationship between Disney and General Motors.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend

Reviving the popular Twilight Zone Tower of Terror theme, runDisney has unveiled its newest race, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend, which debuts next year at Hollywood Studios. The nighttime race, scheduled for September 29, is the reincarnation of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K last held in 2009. The new event will feature runDisney’s first-ever 10 mile distance. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror race weekend will involve a variety of events, including a 5K and Kids’ races, plus a Health and Fitness Expo, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney. Race registration opens Februrary 14, 2012 at runDisney.com.

Disney Vacation Club Coming to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

In a newsletter sent out today, to current Disney Vacation Club members, Disney has announced the opening of 147 villas as part of the previously announced expansion of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Estimated to open in late 2013 near Disney's Wedding Pavilion, the resort's slated to become the 12th Disney Vacation Club property. "With the continued popularity of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, we are thrilled to offer our Members and Guests a new resort option along the monorail beam with easy access to the Magic Kingdom Park, as well as a variety of shopping, dining and recreation experiences," said Claire Bilby, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Vacation Club.

"Exotic Driving Experience" Coming to Walt Disney World Resort in 2012

Combine some of the world’s finest automobiles with a track specifically designed for drivers to safely experience their awe-inspiring acceleration, speed and handling and you have “Exotic Driving Experience”, the latest offering from Petty Holdings. Exotic Driving Experience will feature supercars by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, and Porsche. Future plans include the addition of other exotic models, as well.  Driving Experiences will start at $189 for six laps around the circuit. Thrill Rides with a professional driver at the wheel will be available for $99. It will officially begin on January 16, 2012. Reservations for 2012 can be made by calling 815-822-0149.

Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Returns to DHS

The annual display of holiday cheer, which features millions of dazzling lights, has returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. From now until Jan. 7, 2012, the cityscape and building facades in the park’s Backlot area will be draped in multicolored lights that periodically “dance” to holiday tunes. In addition to the buildings, the area will also feature illuminated carousels, angels, Santa Claus and other figures. (The spectacle will not be operational on Dec. 8). This offering actually began in 1986 in Arkansas, at the home of businessman Jennings Osborne, who strung 1,000 lights as a Christmas gift to his daughter. The exhibit was transported to Disney in 1995 and is a popular holiday draw for many guests.

Exotic Driving Experience Coming to Disney World

There’s a new driving experience coming to the Walt Disney World Speedway early next year that will allow anyone with a driver’s license to get behind the wheel of an amazing “supercar.” The Exotic Driving Experience will feature “supercars” by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi and Porsche on a track specifically designed for the attraction when it opens on Jan. 16, 2012. There are also plans to add other exotic models into the lineup in the future.

Disney Reports $4.8 Billion Profit for FY2011

Propelled by higher prices in its theme parks and continued growth at its cable-television networks, the Walt Disney Co. said Thursday that it made a company-record $4.8 billion profit during its 2011 fiscal year, despite a still-challenging global economy. The announcement followed a fiscal fourth quarter in which the results topped Wall Street's expectations, as profit rose across Disney's sprawling media-and-entertainment holdings.

Bob Iger To Step Down As Disney CEO In 2015

According to the Wall Street Journal, Walt Disney Co. Robert (Bob) Iger will step down as CEO in 2015. Mr. Iger, 60 years old, will add the additional title of chairman of the board in March 2012, and will remain executive chairman until June 2016, at which time he is to retire from Disney at the age of 65.The company said a successor had not been chosen.

Rapunzel Welcomed As 10th Disney Princess

Yesterday, Disney officially welcomed Rapunzel as the 10th Disney Princess character at a high profile, star-studded celebration which took place in front of a global audience at Kensington Palace in London. Little princesses from across the globe watched Rapunzel be welcomed into the Disney Princess royal court by Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Snow White and Tiana.

Happy 40th Birthday, Magic Kingdom!

On October 1, 1971, Walt Disney World opened it's gates with just one park (Magic Kingdom) and two hotels (Contemporary and Polynesian). 40 years later, it's a world-class vacation destination anchored by it's four theme parks, two water parks, Downtown Disney entertainment district and numerous resorts. Walt Disney's 'Florida Project' is ever evolving. Happy Birthday Magic Kingdom!

Disney Cruise Line Adds Second Hawaiian Cruise

Based on an overwhelming response to its first Hawaiian itinerary, Disney Cruise Line® is adding a second Hawaiian cruise to its 2012 schedule. The new 14-night itinerary departs Oct. 14, 2012, from Los Angeles. It includes stops at Kahului, Maui; Nawiliwili, Kauai; Honolulu, O’ahu; and Hilo, Hawai‘i; plus Ensenada, Mexico. In addition, there are eight relaxing days at sea.

Magic Kingdom Parking Lot Changes

Earlier this week, work began to split the parking lot into what will be two main sections, “Heroes” and “Villains,” and then smaller sections within each, including: Woody, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Simba, Mulan and Rapunzel (Heroes lot), and Zurg, Jafar, Hook, Scar, Cruella and Ursula (Villains lot). Each lot also will have its own color, so essentially, all you have to remember is one of these three characteristics (hero, Rapunzel or blue) and you can find your car.

AVATAR Themed Lands Coming to Disney Parks

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide is joining forces with filmmaker James Cameron and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the world of AVATAR to life at Disney parks. Disney will partner with Cameron and producing partner Jon Landau to create themed lands that will give theme park guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious universe of AVATAR first hand. Disney plans to build the first AVATAR themed land at Walt Disney World, within the Animal Kingdom park. Construction is expected to begin by 2013.
