Epcot to Host "Royal Quinceanera Weekend"
Walt Disney World is expanding its quinceanera party offerings this year by launching the first annual "Disney's Royal Quinceanera Weekend" at Epcot during Labor Day weekend 2008. The new event will be headlined by a lavish quinceanera ball and also feature a private viewing of Epcot's Illuminations fireworks spectacular. Packages will include stays that weekend at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort.
Wall Street analysts were a bit more optimistic Monday about theme park results for entertainment giant Walt Disney Co., as investors await news on the company's second-quarter results due after the close on Tuesday. "Disney's theme park division remains investors' No. 1 concern, yet all signs point to Disney's fiscal second-quarter [ending in March] being quite strong, with theme parks likely to upside surprise," stated Richard Greenfield of Pali Research .
Shortly after passing its 10 year bench mark, the Animal Kingdom is bidding farewell to it's familiar fast food counter service menu in Dinoland USA and replacing it with one of standard Disney fare. Disney has announced that McDonald's Restaurant has ceased supplying food items for the Restaurantosaurus dining location as of May 4, 2008. Disney has furthered that this change does not impact any other agreements between the two companies, specifically citing that the near-by Petrifries location will continue to serve McDonald's brand fries.
Hong Kong Disneyland has opened the classic boat ride "It's a Small World" in a bid to boost sluggish attendance at the theme park. The new attraction launched April 28, 2008. The ride, which first appeared at the 1964 World Fair in New York, uniquely features 38 Disney characters in addition to moving and talking figures of children found at other incarnations of the attraction. The children sing a theme song in four new languages — Cantonese, Putonghua, Korean and Tagalog.
Disneyland Resort President, Ed Grier, has announced that a Tinker Bell attraction will open at Disneyland in October 2008. Although lacking details of the attraction, the announcment did note that the opening of the attraction coincides with the October release of "Tinker Bell" on Disney DVD and Blu-ray.
The Walt Disney Company today announced that it has acquired the Disney Store chain in North America from subsidiaries of The Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. Disney has tentatively acquired back 220 Disney Stores in the United States and Disney Stores in Canada, with final number dependent upon further negotiations.Disney also obtained the right to close 98 Disney Stores in the United States and 2 Disney Stores in Canada without assuming the leases for those stores.
Continuing the "Disney Dream Portrait Series" that has put stars in all kinds of Disney fantasies, Leibovitz trained her famous lens this time on the undersea world of Ariel, heroine of "The Little Mermaid." To get there, she dressed actress Julianne Moore and American swimming icon Michael Phelps in tails and scales.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, a former Planet Hollywood employee was arrested 4/28/08 after he threw his backpack on the ground and told restaurant managers that it contained a bomb. As a precautionary measure the backpack was blown up. Upon the controlled explosion, the threat was discovered to be idle as the backpack was found to contain only non-explosive items .
