WDW July 4th Fireworks Schedule
Guests celebrating the Fourth of July at Walt Disney World Resort will have a choice of fireworks shows as Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios present special pyrotechnics and Epcot adds a patriotic "tag" to its famous "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth" spectacular.
Disneyland Summer Nightastic! features an all-new nightly fireworks spectacular, Magical. The new show takes guests on a nostalgic journey through classic Disney movies, and for the first time ever, Dumbo takes flight over Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Celebrating Citizenship: 1K To Be Sworn In As US Citizens At WDW
In a stirring celebration of citizenship, more than 1,000 immigrants will gather on Main Street, U.S.A. July 3 to be "sworn in" as American citizens. And as the country kicks off Independence Day weekend, these brand-new Americans will attend a premiere performance of the newest Walt Disney World attraction, a re-imagined Hall of Presidents, now featuring a lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure of President Barack Obama.
Reuters is reporting Hong Kong has reached a deal with the Walt Disney Co. to expand the local Disney theme park, seen as necessary to bolster the park's long-term prospects against a Shanghai rival, a government source said on Thursday. The agreement is expected to be announced by June 30, with details of the deal to be laid out to local legislators in a special meeting next Tuesday.
Landmark Disneyland Hotel To Undergo Significant Renovation
Beginning in August 2009, Southern California's landmark Disneyland Hotel will start a significant renovation project that will include major improvements to its guest rooms and considerable changes to the exterior of the hotel. The hotel will remain open during the renovation, which will be conducted in phases, and is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
Walt Disney Family Museum On Track For Fall Opening
An article in today's USA Today details the new Disney Family Museum opening this fall in San Francisco. The museum will feature 10 galleries, starting with Disney's beginnings on a Missouri farm. Among the artifacts is the form on which a 16-year-old Disney lied about his age (changing his birth date from 1901 to 1900) to train as a Red Cross ambulance driver in World War I France; he arrived as the war ended. Exhibits include listening stations and more than 200 video monitors as well as interactive displays.
"DIANA - The People's Princess" Exhibit Coming To WDW's Downtown Disney
The People's Princess Charitable Foundation, Inc. (PPCF) is bringing "DIANA - The People's Princess" - a major new exhibit of royal artifacts - to Walt Disney World Resort. Opening in early July 2009, this limited-time experience showcases the life and story of Princess Diana, one of the most iconic and inspirational figures in recent history, including a sampling of the royal dresses Diana chose to auction for charity and hundreds of authentic artifacts relating to her life.
WDW Closing Stitch's SuperSonic Celebration After Short Run
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney officials have confirmed that the plug is being pulled on the new Stitch stage show at the Magic Kingdom. The final performances of Stitch's SuperSonic Celebration, located in Tomorrowland, will be Saturday, June 27. The Stitch show debuted just last month, and should not be confused with the longstanding Tomorrowland attraction known as Stitch's Great Escape.
Disney Parks Celebrate 2009 NBA Finals 'Fairytale Series'
This year's NBA Finals is being dubbed by some - the Fairytale Series. It's Disneyland and the LA Lakers taking on Walt Disney World and the Orlando Magic. And there is no question who each park is hanging their hat on, or in this case, their Mickey Ears....
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Luxo Jr., the hopping desk lamp that serves as the mascot for Pixar Animation Studios, is coming to Walt Disney World. Disney officials confirmed today that a 6-foot-tall animatronic version of Luxo will soon take up residence in the Pixar Place section of Disney's Hollywood Studios. He will appear on an elevated platform at the "Lighting" building in Pixar Place, just across from Toy Story Mania!.
The Walt Disney Co.'s interactive unit said Monday it had acquired the assets of Kaboose Inc., including Kaboose.com, BabyZone.com, AmazingMoms.com and ParentZone.com, for $18 million. The Web sites will join a group of related Disney sites, such as DisneyFamily.com, in a "Mom and Family" portfolio run by Disney Online Vice President Emily Smith, the company said.
The animated action comedy "Up" is soaring in its first weekend at theaters. According to distributor Walt Disney, the film from Pixar Animation pulled in $68.2 million. That's the third-best opening weekend for a Pixar animated film, just behind the $70 million debuts for "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles."
D23 Members Have Opportunity To Become Donald Duck's Official Portrait Artist
For the first time ever, Disney is turning to fans to create an official portrait of one of its biggest stars. Finalists in the Donald Duck 75th Anniversary Portrait Contest will have their work unveiled and displayed at the inaugural D23 Expo, which will be held September 10-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center, adjacent to Disneyland.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Walt Disney World and ESPN are building a new research facility at the Wide World of Sports complex. Dubbed the "ESPN Innovation Lab," the facility will allow the cable-sports giant to test new applications such as virtual graphics during events staged at Disney's sports venues.
Opening in 2011 inside Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland Park will be a new walkthrough type attraction themed to the Disney classic film Cinderella. At Tokyo DisneySea Park, the new attraction Toy Story Mania! will open in 2012 in the themed port of American Waterfront.
